Spatial Workshop 1

The J-wing second floor has a very industrialized and brutalist design, the floor, stairs, walls, and ceilings are all concrete, with the exception of the wooden doors. The doors being wooden creates good contrast between the rest of the space and it has few wooden benches and seating areas with metal chairs and small tables. When entering the Marquee through the side door it is very empty and cold design wise. The concrete gives texture and the windows have pink borders. The door is blue which creates contrast between the pinks and greys in the area. In the B-wing there are concrete stairs that have colourful art on the sides of the stairs. This highlights the fact that this is an art school and adds a splash of colour to a rather dull area.

Spatial Workshop 2

The J-wing could use wooden flooring in the hallways to prevent fatigue from standing on the concrete floor all day, this would also make it look more like an art school rather than a warehouse. Increased seating would also fit in the hallway and make the space more inviting for students to study and work assignments on. The marquee side door is not very visible or identifiable. Adding more bright colours like potted plants could create a more welcoming environment. This is a sketch of the redesigned side door leading to the marquee. My team and I agreed to change the borders to white so it matches the marquee and has a classy look. We also added some potted plants and a rock garden to make it less empty and more welcoming. A sign was also added so that people know where that door leads to.
